Earn your screen time. Without the paywall, or the push-ups.
Unrot, Pushscroll and PushUp Time made "earn your scroll" a category. They also made the long quiz, the locked apps and the subscription wall a category. Here is the same idea with a walk instead of reps, free to start, paid once.
What these apps get right
Forbidding doesn't work; earning does. Making every minute of Instagram cost something real reframes the phone from a default to a reward, and people who stick with these apps say exactly that. The idea is good.
Tollie closes the apps you pick. The key is a spot in your home. One booth free forever · No account · iPhone
Get TollieWhere they lose people
Read the one- and two-star reviews and two thirds to three quarters are about one thing: the paywall. The pattern is the same across the category.
- Thirty to fifty onboarding screens, then a subscription wall before you have blocked a single app.
- Apps locked before you paid. Some lock your apps during setup and ask for money to unlock them, with no obvious way to delete.
- $15 a month, or $30 to $70 a year, with no option to buy it once.
- The mechanic changes. One leader rebuilt its earning system and paying users found out from the UI.
- Reps can be faked. "I learned to trick the AI", "squat hold is too easy to cheat". Camera rep counting is a game, and people win it.
Earning with Tollie
Tollie has two kinds of booth. One closes a window, like bedtime. The other sets a daily budget of free minutes across the apps you pick. Set the budget to zero and nothing is free: every ten minutes has to be earned.
You earn a pass with a toll. The default toll is a walk to a spot in your home that you scanned during setup, usually the kitchen or the hallway. Away from home, it is 100 to 2,000 real steps, your choice. Ten minutes a pass. Passes don't stack, so there is no bank to binge from.
No reps, no camera watching you exercise, no scores. A walk to the kitchen is enough to break the urge, and it works in a flat, at a desk or on a train.

Questions
I liked earning with workouts. Can Tollie do that?
Not yet. Today the tolls are a walk to your spot and real steps. A mission builder with more ways to earn is planned, and it will be added next to the walk, never instead of it.
Is one walk per ten minutes too strict?
Set the budget above zero and the first minutes of the day are free; the walk only starts when they are spent. Or pick the Easy level, where one walk opens the booth until its window ends.
Is this for teenagers?
Tollie is built for one adult and their own phone. There is no parent mode and no family dashboard.
